Working with dispersion modelers at Los Alamos National Laboratory we are developing a national database of building morphological data for use in mesoscale meteorological and urban dispersion models.  To date, we have developed a processing tool in ArcGIS 9, processed building data for 8 cities (click on links to the right to download reports), and initiated the development of a national database of parameters to be available in summer of 2005.  The building morphological parameters included in the reports to the right are: mean and standard deviation of building height, building height histograms, plan area fraction and density at 1-m increments, rooftop area density at 1-m increments, frontal area index and density at 1-m increments, complete aspect ratio, building surface to plan are ratio, height-to-width ratio, and roughness length and displacement height.  Additional parameters are being derived for the national database.  Details of the calculation procedures and the GIS approach to the processing are contained in the reports.
