The planting beds for the Jordan River Wetland Herbarium have been completed and are ready to plant!! The ASCE Student Chapter will be planting on November 4, 2006 from 9 am until noon.
Salt Lake County has an area of 2,000 square feet to plant five different species of sedges and rushes. The plants are 40 cubic inch tubelings. They are easy to plant, and the planting bed has been topped with 3-4” of recycled landfill compost. This keeps mud to a minimum.
Planting is done in two phases: 1) Drive 8-9” holes into the soil with steel pry bar, 2) Extract the plant from the tubeling and drop into the hole.
The location of the Herbarium is approximately 11900 South 1000 West. You enter Alan Point Drive (12000 South) off 700 West in Draper, park at the end of the Drive, and walk about 100 yards along the Draper Parkway trail to the site.
Dress in long pants, and layer on top for changes in the weather. Gloves are optional. Bring your own water. There will be a portable toilet in the vicinity.
