Graduate Students Discussing Research

Transferring to the U

Thinking about transferring to the U? Then you are in the right spot!

Transferring to the University of Utah & the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering is very easy. The Department does not limit the number of students into the department. Intermediate and major status applications are accepted all semesters. We do recommend that you transfer during Fall semester, to better guarantee that you will not be delayed in your program since some classes are only taught one semester.

Guide to Apply

The following is a guide that the Department recommends students to do when transferring For University specific information you will want to go to the Transfer Center's website.

  1. Apply to The University of Utah by the semester deadlines.
  2. Review Articulation Guide (transferable courses) & the academic flowchart to determine current department status. The status requirements are located in the Department Handbook.
  3. Not all courses will transfer perfectly from a previously attended academic institution. It is therefore necessary to petition courses which you believe satisfy department or university requirements. For a department petition complete a Petition or Out of State Course Evaluation. If you would like to petition a University requirement you need to contact University College.
  4. Once you are accepted, contact your faculty advisor and schedule a meeting to go over your classes and create a plan for the classes you need to take. Please schedule your appointment with your advisor at least 1-2 weeks in advance.
  5. If applicable, apply for intermediate or major status so you can register for the appropriate classes.
  6. Apply for Department, College, and University scholarships.
  7. Plan to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam as early as the first semester of your junior year. See the Program Handbook for information on FE Exam requirements.
