Personal Sketch:
Steven Burian has been a member of the faculty of the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of Utah since August 2003, where he has taught courses on water resources and environmental engineering. His research and teaching interests focus on urban systems and their interaction with natural environment systems. This interest evolved from a childhood in a Chicago suburb that spurred a fascination with the massive engineered systems necessary to support large cities. Dr. Burian earned the BSCE degree from the University of Notre Dame and completed his graduate studies at The University of Alabama. From June 1998 until January 2000 he worked as a graduate research assistant at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) where he participated with an interdisciplinary team studying urban systems. He has subsequently returned to LANL as a visiting scientist and visiting faculty during the summers of 2000 and 2001. From January 2000 until August 2003, Dr. Burian was a member of the Civil Engineering faculty at the University of Arkansas and during the summer of 2002 he was a NASA/ASEE Faculty Fellow at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. |
