The University of Utah ACI student chapter is dedicated to:
* helping students become interested in concrete as a building material
* gaining experience and knowledge using concrete
* minimizing the environmental impacts associated with concrete
construction and repair
* helping students take advantage of the resources offered by the
American Concrete Institute
Every year, ACI gives out $77,000 to students in scholarships and
fellowships. Several of our student members have recieved scholarships
or fellowships from the local chapter and the national organization.
Congratulations to this year’s recipients:

ACI also holds conventions bi-annually. Student registration is only $10.
The bi-annual conventions are a great opportunity to network and meet industry
professionals. It is also a great chance to learn more about cutting-edge technologies
related to concrete. Additionally, sudents from universities in North and South America
compete in exciting competitions.
The
ACI student chapter sponsored 10 undergraduate students in the concrete
cylinder competition. There were 5 categories in which the students
were scored: Target strength (7,000 psi), Target density (150 pcf),
Lowest cost, highest cementious material efficiency, and overall score.
2 teams from the University of Utah competed against 20 other teams
from North and South America. The University of Utah scored 1st in
target strength and 2nd overall. 1st overall went to a university in
Chile. This was the first time the University of Utah was represented
in an ACI student competition. A big congratulations to the teams and
all the hard work they put into the competition!!
ACI is
sponsoring another student competition in the Spring to be held in San
Antonio. For more information consult the sudent section of ACI's
